July 11 bird count along the Bosque River Trail
Weather - mostly sunny, some large cloud bands, temp ~80 degrees at 7:15 am, no wind. Wind picks up around 9:00 am.
Event 1 - I saw a Summer Tanager sitting high up in a tree near the city museum. As I watched a Cardinal landed in a lower branch about 10 feet away. I have a picture of these two birds sitting in the tree. Suddenly a third red bird attacked the Summer Tanager. All three birds flew away, but the original Tanager returned to a lower branch in the tree. I initially thought the attacking bird was another Summer Tanager, as a similar event happened yesterday. However, it is possible that the attacking bird was another Cardinal. I didn’t get a good look at it. I saw a separate Summer Tanager in the large tree in the hayfield.
