Bird count along the Bosque River Trail August 10, 2026. Great time for Great Blue Herons.

Weather - clear, no wind, temp ~80 degrees at 7:00am. The temperature is supposed to be around 100 degrees this afternoon.

Great Blue Herons - I’ve seen Great Blue Herons in or around several of the shrinking puddles in the Bosque River. The fish trapped in these shallow puddles are helpless. I’m surprised the Herons can still fly. There are also numerous mammal tracks around the puddles. Many of the tracks look like racoon tracks.

Nutra - I saw a Nutria today for the first time in a long time. It was swimming up the river. There were up to five Nutria before the big floods in the spring. The Nutria have been absent since then.

Fish nests - I could only see four Perch nests with Perch still guarding them.
