Bird count along the Bosque River Trail August 2026. Skunk and fish-eggs.
Weather - Mostly cloudy - no wind - humid - temp ~80 degrees at 7:00 am. Wind moderate gusts by 8:30 am.
Black Belly Whistling Ducks - no BBWDs for about a week. Most of summer 2-6 every day. May have migrated south.
Owls - none at the Owl spot along the river
House Finches - the house finch flock was still near the dam.
White Eyed Vireo - positive sighting for the first time. It was a pair of birds.
Fish nests - the nests are less distinct. There are also less of them. Perch are still present. I think one of the nests contains a round cluster of eggs. The cluster is dark and about the circumference of a baseball. I’ll put a picture in the photo section.
Skunk - I saw a large skunk in the hayfield near Minter Street. It had a very large fluffy tail.
Black fish - the number of black fish in the remaining river water near the museum has increased as the amount of water has shrunk.
Raptor - I saw a small light-colored raptor today. Unfortunately, it was flying fast and I didn’t get a good look at it.
