Bird count along the Bosque River trail August 7, 2026. On a bench.
Weather - clear, very light wind, temp ~75 at 7:30 am.
On the bench - I had a knee injection yesterday. I wasn’t supposed to do any strenuous exercise for 48 hours. So today I drove down to City Park and sat on my favorite bench and watched for birds. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while. I was amazed at how many different birds I saw. However, because I didn’t move along the trail the bird count and number of types of birds is low.
Green Herons - A pair of Green Herons flew over my bench and the two birds landed in different trees. The trees were about 20 feet apart. One Green heron landed in the top of a tree and all I could see was its head and neck. It looked pretty funny sticking up at the top of the tree. The other Green Heron landed on a branch in the middle of the tree near the footbridge. The two birds kept looking at one another. After about two minutes one Heron flew off, and was followed quickly by the other Heron. I have good pictures of both herons which I have posted in the picture section of this website.
