Bird count along the Bosque River Trail July 18, 2026

Weather - mostly overcast, some clear patches, light wind, temp ~75 degrees at 7:00am. Mostly sunny by 10:00 am. Wind picked up.

Numbers - the number of birds today is low. No idea why.

Scissortail Flycatcher - I saw a number of Scissortail Flycatcher fluttering around a tree. As I got closer I saw three smaller birds perched on branch in the tree. The smaller birds turned out to be baby Scissortail Flycatchers.

Barn Swallows - well I thought all the Barn Swallows were gone, but I saw four of the today.

Grackles - I saw another Grackle train today. There were about 34 Grackles in the train.

Fish - there were a lot of fish visible in the section of the river where I saw them yesterday. The fish were mostly small from about four to eight inches. A friend of mine suggested that they may have been close to the surface to get oxygen. The river has been pretty sluggish for the past few days, so the bottom of the river may be oxygen deficient.
