Bird count along the Bosque River Trail September 3, 2026. Another Otter sighting ?
Weather - clear, no wind, humid, temp ~80 degrees at 7:15am. ½ Moon still up at ~11:00am. Tropical storm well to the southeast.
Bird count - bird types moderate, bird numbers low
Otter - I think I saw an Otter again today. I saw a large disturbance in the river north of the dam. I couldn’t see anything at the surface. Then about 100 feet down from the disturbance I saw a mammal head pop out of the water. It looked just like the Otter head I saw before. It swam downstream for a short while, then dived under water again. I am not certain it was an Otter, but it sure looked like one to me. The incident happened too fast for me to get a photo.
Nighthawk - much to my surprise I saw a Nighthawk at about 9:30am. I was sitting on a bench drinking coffee and the nighthawk flew overhead.
Scissortail Flycatchers - I thought the Scissortail Flycatchers had migrated out of the area. However, today I saw five Scissortail Flycatchers flying around chasing each other in a tree near the dam.
